Even though the coronavirus pandemic has created panic in the society and deteriorated the economy, it also has some positive impact on the country.
The lockdown in Punjab has had a positive impact on the environment and society. Other than doing wonders for our environment, the lockdown has also reduced crime rate in the province significantly.
The improvement in crime rate was highlighted by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Punjab, Shoaib Dastgir. A statement was released on his behalf by his spokesperson revealing a 39% reduction in just three weeks.
As per the IGP the reason for the reduction in crime incidents in the province is because of the presence of police personnel on the roads all the time and the restriction on free movement.
There is a significant drop witnessed in robberies, theft and snatchings. It is not hard for criminals to continue their activities at a time when the police are hyperactive on roads.
Even though there have been few positives of coronavirus, it has been warned by the U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres that the world is facing the most challenging crisis since World War II in the shape of COVID-19.
It is pertinent to mention here that the most vulnerable group during lockdown is women and children as domestic violence cases have surged.
