COVID-19 cases reduce by 50% in Rawalpindi


Authorities say the number of COVID-19 cases has been decreased by fifty percent after the imposition of a smart lockdown in Rawalpindi.

On 18th June, fifteen areas in Rawalpindi and 7 Cantt neighborhoods were declared as the hotspots of the COVID-19 and were immediately sealed. The residents living in these areas were tested again and hence the result of the lockdown was quite successful.

On a daily basis, seventy cases were being reported initially. But now the number of cases reported on a daily basis has reduced to twenty, told Zaheer Anwar Jappa Additional Deputy Commissioner.

He further added that the smart lockdown is a fruitful model to control the coronavirus. If the public keeps cooperating with the government and follows all preventive measures then the number of COVID-19 cases can decrease more.

The smart lockdown will remain effective till 30th June. The total number of coronavirus cases reported in Punjab has reached up to 72,000.

On the other hand, Pakistan has decided to reopen the Kartarpur Corridor for the Sikh pilgrim on 29th June. Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi announced the news through his Twitter account.
