Ever since Meesha Shafi accused Ali Zafar of harassing her on many occasions, many women have come forward with their experienced incidents of harassment with the Channo singer. After Meesha’s allegations, Ali Zafar took it to social media and stated that the claims made by the female singer were nothing but false. He also mentioned that he would be taking the matter to court and would file a defamation case against Meesha Shafi for humiliating him.
Ali Zafar then filed a lawsuit against Meesha, making a demand of rupees one billion for the damage that is caused to his reputation by the female singer’s allegations against him. The hearing session of the case was held yesterday at the Session Court Lahore. The session was chaired by the judge—Shehzad Ahmed.
The court asked a response from Meesha Shafi after Ali Zafar’s counsel—Rana Intizar Hussain presented his arguments. The claims were registered by the male singer’s advocate—Khawaja Tariq Rahim.
Ali Zafar’s counsel declined all the harassment allegations made by Meesha and called them baseless and false. Rana Intizar Hussain also added that the Aya Lariye singer was making use of them for acquiring cheap publicity.
The Jhoom singer’s legal team also informed the court that Meesha Shafi has not apologized despite the notice that was sent to her. Ali Zafar’s counsel requested the court to give a directive to Meesha Shafi and pay rupees one billion as indemnification.
Judge Shehzad Ahmed has given a stay order which is in favour of Ali Zafar. The stay order restrains Meesha Shafi from making any such statements that might be defamatory across all the available mediums until the final decision of the case.
As per the case presented by the counsel of Ali Zafar Meesha Shafi’s accusation were already rejected some weeks back at the ombudsman’s office—an official organisation that safeguards women from harassment. The case was dismissed for not enduring Meesha’s allegations of harassment at the workplace.
The next hearing session would be held next month that is in July. Meesha Shafi was absent at the hearing.
