The Chairman of Council of Islamic Ideology (CII)—Dr Qibla Ayaz said that CII would be reviewing the lunar calendar after Eid. He said that the lunar calendar developed by the Ministry of Science and Technology would be reviewed after Eid and after that, a decision would be taken about it.
He also said that the final opinion cannot be given without taking the advice of the religious clerics. Ayaz informed that a meeting for getting the opinions of the religious scholars on the matter would be called after Eid-ul-Fitr.
Additionally, he said that the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee is crucial when it comes to learning and determining the Eid despite the presence of the lunar calendar.
Fawad Chaudhry—the federal minister for Science and Technology has criticised many Islamic scholars over their method of moon sighting while vowing to prepare the lunar calendar before the start of Ramazan this year.
He had said prior to the launch of 5-year Islamic Hijri calendar that there is no wisdom in spending 3-4 million rupees for moon sighting and instead guidance should be taken from his ministry.
Before the calendar launch, he mentioned that the religious clerics would be taken into confidence. He had said that after the opinion of CII is sought, the calendar would then be sent to the federal cabinet for approval.
