Zhengwu appreciated the initiative and said that previously the residents of the city of Lahore had to travel to the capital city for applying for a visa to China. He said that this new facility would give huge relief to the businessmen and the visitors. He added that Lahore is an important city and the new centre of economic activity in the province of Punjab.
The visa application centre would be looking after the passengers willing to travel to China, Macau and the administrative region of Hong Kong. But the office would only be gathering the needed documents and would send them to the Chinese embassy in the capital city, which would be making the final call.
Zhengwu said that the Chinese embassy has outsourced the Lahore visa centre to a private firm and would operate via them.
This would ease the burden on the Islamabad embassy, which as per reports processes 4,000 applications per month.
