China’s State Media is concerned about the security of Chinese and the CPEC projects in Pakistan. In the July 13th attack in Mastung, Baluchistan more than 130 people died. As the Pakistani nation mourned the deaths of its people, China’s media seems concerned about not just the CPEC projects but also about the safety of its people living in Pakistan.
Global Times, run by Communist Party of China’s People’s Daily has asked the Chinese to remain extra careful after the terror attack.
A column in Global Times read, “But if the situation in Pakistan continues to deteriorate, it’s possible that some CPEC projects in fields such as energy and transport may become targets of terrorist attacks. Chinese citizens living in Pakistan need to increase security awareness, reduce outdoor activities in the coming weeks and avoid going to crowded places. Chinese enterprises doing business in the country should also raise their security measures.”
China is supportive of Pakistan when it comes to fighting terrorism. Therefore as per Global Times, China and Pakistan need to work together and ensure stability and security in the country.
Adding, “Apart from traditional counter-terrorism cooperation, more efforts are needed to provide China’s neighbor with necessary assistance. Xinjiang has seen a spike in security-related investment over the past few years, and the region has achieved some good results in areas such as information technology. More security-related investment projects must be introduced to Pakistan under the CPEC framework. The CPEC has much potential to enhance security cooperation between China and Pakistan, and improvements in Pakistan’s security situation will also bode well for the CPEC.”
As the elections are approaching in Pakistan, the terror attacks have increased which is alarming not just for the country but also its neighbor China.
