Since the development of CPEC requires efficient air travel, the direct flights between China and Pakistan are critical in providing comfortable traveling for businesses, public and other stakeholders. In relation to this, China Southern Airlines is all set to start regular flights to Lahore. The flights will operate between Urumqi, the capital of Northwest China’s Xinjiang Uyghur region and Lahore in June this year.
The vice sales manager of the China Southern Airlines, Xu Jianmin said on Tuesday, “The airlines will operate 11 new domestic routes in the region.”
According to the officials in Pakistan, five of the routes will connect regional cities including Korla, Yining, and Karamay with cities in southern and central parts of China.
Urumqi Air, an affiliate airline of Hainan Airlines will add 6 new routes during summer-autumn aviation season starting from Sunday. The company also plans to launch new international routes to western and central Asian countries.
Urumqi International Airport is the biggest airport in Xinjiang, the growing air traffic in the region requires airlines to start new routes and operations, the airport accounted for record high passengers in 2017, more than 21.5 million passengers traveled through Urumqi International Airport during this time.
Besides Chinese airlines, Pakistan travel industry is also planning to start new domestic and international operations, in Pakistan six new airlines are expected to start their operations soon, the airlines are expected to start their operations during 2018.
