Ride hailing services are getting popular in Pakistan and two competitors are getting their horns locked in the market to capture the growing market.
If you have tried one service you may want to get reviews for the other one or if you haven’t tried at all then you might be looking for a fair review to get on with one of the services.
Let’s do a fair comparative analysis from what I have experienced heard from my friends. It’s worth mentioning that one of my friends also worked in Uber operations and now he has joined Careem so I will tell you the ins and outs of both.
Uber services started back a year ago in Pakistan, the company is still struggling with operations in major cities of Pakistan, the problem they are facing is, hiring new drivers, keeping the costs down and expanding their presence.
The prices estimated on Uber app are slightly higher than that of Careem, for instance if you wish to travel from Islamabad to Rawalpindi and estimate cost on both apps, you will find Uber displaying 5 to 10% higher prices than Careem.
Because Uber currently facing a shortage in driver base they accept in other words compromise the car quality. This means you may get older models while traveling with Uber.
Uber has a lot fewer drivers backup, which means you may have to wait much longer during busy times, secondly, depending on your location you may not be able to get you picked up in time.
Careem also started more or less with Uber in 2016, with Careem’s mainstream media advertising and outdoor advertising the company was able to gain enough exposure to the audience in less time. Uber, on the other hand, was struggling with operations. Now Careem has larger driver base as compared to Uber, the company earns more incentives and respect for the drivers by calling them “Captains” so the driver’s decision is to stick with the company who makes them happy in both cases.
The prices at Careem are almost 10% less than Uber, Careem also offers free rides, promotion codes for new customers similar to Uber.
Careem’s fleet is much better than Uber if we consider the basic service, Careem does not take the cars to be included in the service that is older or not properly maintained. So if you order Careem Go service you can expect a good car coming to pick you up.
Uber’s cars are also good but comparably, Careem beats Uber.
And finally the waiting time on Careem is a lot less than Uber, this is because of the fact that Careem has more drivers than Uber. Secondly, they are getting more orders due to which drivers mobility reduces waiting time.
