Careem has acquired Commut—an Indian bus shuttle service application. Careem is not a new name, it is the leading tech platform covering a larger part of the Middle East.

The app Commut is a Hyderabad based mass transportation application that is used for the purpose of travelling at an undisclosed amount.

The deal assures that the excellent talent and superior technology of Commut would be combined completely into Careem, and would in turn help in increasing Careem’s expansion into mass transportation via the addition of bus services throughout its hundred cities.

Magnus Olsson—the co-founder and chief experience officer of Careem said that mass transportation is one of the biggest problems being faced by many rapidly growing cities in the region. He added that solving this issue would help in simplifying the lives and would provide affordable transport alternatives that could be a catalyst for moving cities forward.

Olsson further said that being the leading firm in the region, Careem is always looking around for investing in new technologies and the right individuals for assisting in solving complicated domestic issues. He also said that Commut has got a successful track record into mass transportation and Careem is excited to bring their expertise into the family of Careem.

Commut is a tech driver bus shuttle service that was originally founded by six IIIT Hyderabad graduates. It has been operational in Hyderabad since November 2015. Commut is supported by UK-based Shell Foundation and 50K businesses, it has provided service to seventy thousand customers and has got four hundred driver-partners on board.

Commut’s local operations which include both its customers and driver partners were acquired by Shuttl, which is a shuttle service provider in India.

The CEO of Commut—Prasanth Garapati said that Commut was founded with the aim of touching people’s lives by providing them with an economical, reliable, comfortable and tech-equipped mass transit solution. The aim of Commut is in accordance with that of Careem. He further said that joining hands with Careem would help in fulfilling the mission much more extensively.
