Car Dealers to Go on Strike Over Excessive Import Duties

Excessive Import Duties

The car dealers are planning to go on strike over the excessive import duties.

The Lahore car dealers are considering to hold a strike on The Mall if both the provincial and federal and provincial governments fail to address their issues, as per the reports of a media outlet on Saturday.

As per the Lahore Car Dealers Federation, the government was not looking seriously into the matter of the dealers which is obvious from the current import and taxation policies.

The car dealers emphasized that the local automobile industry could experience suffering to a great deal if proper corrective steps regarding the extraordinary import duties are not taken. They also added that further reduction in demand would also lead to the discouragement of the new auto players in the industry.

The federation also said that the automobile industry is going towards a disaster. Nearly 35percent of car showrooms have been closed due to the declining business opportunities for the car dealers.

Some months back a protest occurred where the car dealers asked for the resolution of their problems. The minister of the industries had given assurance that the demands of the car dealers would be met, however, nothing was done in this matter.
