Muhammad Umar Shiekh – the Capital City Police Officer (CCPO), Lahore – recently requested a military-form law for corrupt police officers. He requested the IGP, Punjab to introduce a ‘court-martial’ law in the police force.
This recent reform request is made when the CCPO realized that the number of complaints against the Punjab Police is up on the rise. He told Inam Ghani – the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Punjab – that the citizens are complaining about the abusive attitude of the police in the region.
The CCPO is of the view that the current punishment policy for the officers is not enough to cater to these complaints. Therefore, there’s a need for a strict military-style punishment policy.
He also notified the IGP that an expelled officer easily gets back to his position and start making the same mistakes again. Such officers shouldn’t be permitted in the force.
In my opinion, the introduction of the court-martial in the police is the key to keep the house in order as far as this force is concernedMuhamamd Umar Shiekh, CCPO, Lahore
If this policy is approved by the IGP, Punjab, and is implemented, not only the number of complaints would drop by but the citizens would feel better around the police and would value the department as a whole.
