Pakistan has chosen the movie Cake for Oscar nomination. The movie is the direction of Asim Abbasi. It is selected to be submitted for the “best foreign-language film” category at the Oscars.

The star cast of the movie includes Aamina Sheikh, Adnan Malik and Sanam Saeed. The film was a production of a London based businessman—Syed Zulfikar Bukhari.

The plot of the movie revolves around a woman who takes care of her ageing parents as the health of the parents’ is day by day deteriorating.

The story of the movie follows the lives of two sisters, one of the sisters is shown residing abroad and another one is shown staying at home and taking care of the parents.

The overseas sister returns back home after the health condition of her parents worsens. As the story moves forward, some undisclosed resentments are unveiled as the family continues to find ways of healing divisions.

According to the film director, the film depicts a new trend in Pakistani cinema. He expressed hope that may they all always find the strength and the vision of telling stories in their own way.

The very first submission by the Pakistan Academy Selection Committee for the Oscars was made in the year 1959.

In the year 1963, Pakistan submitted its second submission—Ghunghat which remained unsuccessful in the selection process.

After a very long gap, Pakistan sent Zinda Bhaag for the 86th Academy Awards in 2013.

In the year 2017, Saawan was sent as an official submission entry to Oscars for the 90th Academy Awards.
