In the budget 2017-18, the Punjab Government has allocated PKR 3,500 million for governance and information technology. Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB), P&D Department, Excise and Taxation Department, Home Department and some other government departments will benefit from this budget presented by the government of Pakistan.
The Punjab Government is taking huge steps to merge information technology with every government to improvise the system and make things run smoothly.
In the fiscal year 2016-17, the government of Pakistan allocated PKR 13,950 million for governance and IT sector. This huge budget helped improving four major government departments. PKR 12,260.48 million were spent on Land Records Management and Information Systems Project (Phase-I), PKR 70 million on Digitisation of Public Prosecution Department (Phase-II), PKR 98.718 million were spent on the Citizen Feedback Monitoring Programme, and the rest was spent on Establishment of Video Conferencing Facility of Punjab government and some other project.
The target for the budgetary year 2017-18 are set to improve and implement; (1) Implementation of Case Flow Management System in Lahore High Court through the ongoing project titled “New IT Initiatives at LHC”, (2) the New Invoice Monitoring System (IMS), (3) the Prison Management Information System, (4) Board of Revenue (BoR) titled Property Registration Systems, and (5) New GIS Integrated Computerisation of Urban Immovable Property Tax (UIPT) in districts of Punjab.
The combination of information technology with other sectors will enable the Punjab government to eliminate corruption, make the system more efficient, and will create more opportunities for the young. The ultimate result of all these will help Pakistan pace up and improve its internal system to fight back corruption.
