Borgward SUV BX5 has been seen with a green official number plate in Pakistan. It is important to mention here that neither that car has officially launched in Pakistan, nor has its production begun.
It was earlier speculated that the Sazgaar Engineering Works, CNG 4-stroke rickshaw makers would launch the car in 2019. The media reports claimed that the same company is presently importing these vehicles.
The notification read, “The vehicles will be assembled/manufactured under the brand name of BAIC.”
Sazgaar, however, denied these reports that claimed that the company imported these SUVs.
The company stated, “We have no link with these cars in Pakistan.”
Also, there has been no tender for these cars. The only possibility is that these vehicles have been gifted to the government institutions of the country. Thus, the cars having green number plates would make sense.
Basically, Borgward is a German company that ended its operations in 1963. The company was revived by Beiqi Foton Motors manufacturers which is Beijing Automotive Industry Corporation (BAIC) subsidiary.
Foton is BAIC’s commercial vehicle division. It manufactures SUVs, jeeps, and trucks. Presently, the Borgward vehicles are available in Chinese, Malaysian, and European markets. The Borgward seen in Pakistan comes in two variants in Malaysia. The two variants are 2.0-liter all-wheel drive and 1.4-liter two-wheel-drive.
