The most popular courses amongst Pakistani youth ae beautician courses. These courses offered by different technical and vocational centers provide new skills to youngsters to allow them to earn their livelihood.
According to a research report conducted by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) on Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in Pakistan titled “Issues and Challenges for Productivity Enhancement”, there is a high demand for beautician courses as the skills acquired from it can help students in generating self-employment opportunities.
14.5% students enrolled in vocational institutes went for beautician courses, as per the study. Following this, 12.9% students chose to learn basic computer apps. Then 11.5% students opted for tailoring, 6% opted for diploma in IT while 5.3% students opted for DAE (Civil).
Beautician courses are held for 3 to 6 months’ time. Institutes affiliated by TVET offer these courses. Similarly, private institutions and beauty parlors operated by showbiz celebrities offer courses-cum-training for up to 1 year.
Training is given to students regarding make-up techniques, applying different machines work, cosmetology techniques, and work ethics. Almost 90% of the course is dependent on practical work. The eligibility criteria in the course vary from middle school to matriculation.
For self-employment, students might choose these fields primarily as beauticians, as per the study. It was revealed that not just female beauticians get good jobs but also they offer make-up services at home individually or in groups during the wedding season.
