Auto Sales in Pakistan up by 15 Percent in February

There is a reason behind increasingly congested urban cities of Pakistan due to vehicles on the roads, Auto sales in Pakistan witnessed 15 percent increase during last month which is inherently contributing to congestion. From one point of view increase in vehicle sales in Pakistan is promising for the economy, but the poor planning of roads, infrastructure and congestion could lead to another environmental problem.

Locally assembled vehicles and Light Commercial Vehicles (LCVs) have seen 15 percent increase during February as compared to the corresponding period last year. The total number of locally manufactured vehicles recorded at 22,654 units in February, the figure was 19,686 last year in February. Experts say the increase in locally manufactured cars and vehicles sales is due to strict policies implemented to impede car imports in order to maintain a balance between imports and exports.

According to the statistics released by Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA), the sales of LCVs has increased by 41 percent year-on-year basis for the month of February 2018 as 3,627 of LCVs were sold in February as compared to 2,467 units sold in February 2017. Additionally, HiLux sales jumped by 33 percent and reached record sales this year.

Pak Suzuki is on the top of the list among top 3 local car manufacturers in Pakistan, despite the price rise on various Suzuki cars, Suzuki is leading the sales because of recently upgraded WagonR and Suzuki Cultus and some others.

Suzuki managed to sell 1,000 more units of Suzuki Mehran during February 2018 as compared to the corresponding month last year. The company also sold 447 extra units of Suzuki WagonR in the month of February. There was a total of 35 percent increase in Suzuki sales year-on-year basis.

Honda also posted an increase in profits due to the popularity of two Honda vehicles, BR-V and Honda City sedan. Honda managed to sell 661 more units of BR-V model in February as compared to the corresponding period last year. Honda witnessed 20 percent increase in the sales during February as compared to the corresponding period last year.

However, Toyota got a blow on its sales during February as compared to the previous year’s February, Toyota sales in the coming years are also expected to increase. Besides, private cars and commercial vehicles, sales of tractors increased to 5,454 units in February 2018. Last year, 4,647 tractors were sold in the month of February.
