Asad Umar resigns as Finance Minister of Pakistan


Asad Umar, the Finance Minister of Pakistan has officially announced that he is resigning from his post.

The speculations surrounding around Asad Umar’s resignation has been confirmed by the man himself.

He tweeted,  “As part of a cabinet reshuffle PM desired that I take the energy minister portfolio instead of finance. However, I have obtained his consent to not take any cabinet position. I strongly believe @ImranKhanPTI is the best hope for Pakistan and inshallah will make a Naya Pakistan.”

The reports were circulating around the reshuffle in the Finance Minister and Interior Minister posts held by Asad Umar and Shehryar Afridi respectively.

The information minister said that there was no truth to these reports, however now Asad Umar himself has admitted that he is stepping down.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority issued show cause notices to both Bol and Ary news for airing reports regarding reshuffle in the cabinet.

As for the replacement of Asad Umar, there are speculations going on around Shaukat Tareen.

Owais Tohid tweeted, ” Asad Umar has resigned as finance minister, a big blow to the government. Shaukat Tareen is likely to replace him.”

We will wait and see how things turn around from here onwards.
