Apple Rolls Out iOS 16.5.1 And Patches Serious Vulnerabilities

Apple has released a number of new software updates for iPhone and iPad owners, among others. The new iOS version 16.5.1 corrects an error when charging the iPhone and fixes security-related vulnerabilities.

iPhone and iPad users will now receive a new update for iOS 16 and iOS 15. This is an update without any new features. This fixes an issue that caused the charging function to not work with the Lightning to USB 3 camera adapter. All other changes relate to unspecified bug fixes and security updates. We have included the release notes published by Apple at the end of this post.

Update now

Along with the update for the iPhone, Apple also released iPadOS 16.5.1, iOS and iPadOS 15.7.7, watchOS 9.5.2, macOS Ventura 13.4.1, macOS Monterey 12.6.7, and macOS Big Sur 11.7.8.

Important for this update: According to Apple, vulnerabilities that could also be exploited on older systems have been patched. There are reports of active exploits. A vulnerability could be exploited by an attacker to run crafted apps with arbitrary code with kernel privileges. That’s why there are also updates for iOS/iPadOS 15 and macOS 11 and 12. Unpatched devices are thus exposed to unnecessary danger. iPhone owners should update in a timely manner to fix the issues and security vulnerabilities mentioned.

How to Receive iOS 16.5.1 Update

The distribution takes place as an over-the-air update (OTA), depending on the user settings, either at the preselected time or directly when available.

You can also use iTunes with a PC for the update and connect your iOS device there. If you want to receive the update as quickly as possible and don’t want to wait for the automatic installation, you can search for the software update in the settings and install it directly.

To do this, go to Settings / General / Software update. The iOS update is displayed there, you can start the download and install it directly. This usually gives you the update faster than waiting for an update notification or choosing the automatic function.
