Hafeez-Ur-Rehman—the Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) announced on Monday that the number of the cases of the novel coronavirus in the region has been reached 230 with only 72 active cases.
CM Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) said that overall 155 people have been recovered from the coronavirus in the region. “It was the only provincial territory in the country where tests of the coronavirus are conducted free of cost,” he claimed.
He further said that instead of establishing the quarantine facilities at the hospital, the authorities at Gilgit-Baltistan chose to move it to the hotels, avoiding the problems being created at the medical facilities.
“We have completed tests on all those people having a traveling history in the province,” he said adding that anyone trying to hide his/her coronavirus symptoms would be fined up to Rs 50,000.
The chief minister further said that the government has planned to distribute the ration among as many as 50,000 needy families in the region and had currently distributed it among 11,000 households.
It is worth mentioning here that the government of Gilgit-Baltistan on Saturday decided to extend the lockdown in the region till April 19 amid coronavirus pandemic.
