British-Pakistani boxer Amir Khan has arrived in Lahore to attend the closing ceremony of inter-division Punjab Open Boxing Championship.
Khan accompanying his wife “Faryal Makhdoom” are invited as the chief guests at the closing ceremony where they will be distributing prizes to the winners. During a press conference at the National Hockey Stadium on Friday, the chairman Punjab sports board, Jahangir Khanzada announced that Amir Khan would be attending the closing ceremony of the tournament.
Amir Khan’s presence in the tournament would be a great source of encouragement for the young boxers as Khan is the big name in the United Kingdom and the world of boxing—he added.
Khanzada and director if sports Anees Shiekh welcomed and received the couple at the airport. The closing ceremony would be held tonight at the Nishtar Park Sports Complex Gymnasium Hall.
Amir Khan has previously shown his interest previously to support Pakistan in developing a world-class boxing set up in the country. Earlier, Khan while talking to media in London said, Pakistan is a heaven for investors and he will establish many boxing and training academies in Gwadar and some other cities of Pakistan. He said he will be working with the leading property developer CPIC for this purpose.
Khan has recently played an astonishing game, his last match was with Phi Lo Greco, Khan knocked him out within the first 40 seconds of the game. Khan’s popularity and achievements in world class boxing are the real sources of inspiration for youth.
