Almost Half of Karachi Without Electricity as Winter Showers Turn Weather Cold

Winter showers accompanied by thunder and lightning has struck Karachi on late Sunday night, however, heavy rains have resulted in leaving almost half of the city in darkness because of the power breakdown.

The areas of Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Clifton, Gulistan-e-Johar, Defence, Saddar, Malir Cantt, along with the neighbourhoods in the vicinity of the Karachi airport and Shahrah-e-Faisal and I.I. Chundrigarh Road have also received the rainfall.

On the other hand, the areas that have been affected with the power outage issue are the localities of Saddar, Orangi Town, Gulistan-e-Johar, North Karachi and Model Colony.

As per a spokesperson of the K-Electric—Karachi’s only power supplier has confirmed regarding the power breakdown in few areas of the city owing to rainfall.

The spokesperson said that there is power breakdown on Pad Mounted Transformers (PMTs) in the areas of Orangi Town, Gulistan-e-Johar, North Karachi, Gulshan-e-Iqbal and Garden. It was further informed that power would soon be resumed in the affected areas of the city.

The spokesperson also added that the team of K-Electric is engaged in working for resuming power in the affected areas.

Rainfall in the city would sure be decreasing temperature thus turning it colder. Schools are already open after winter break, parents are advised to keep their children warm in this cold weather in order to prevent them from getting sick.
