Beijing Automotive Industry Holding Co. Ltd. (BAIC), a Chinese state-owned auto company set the PAP Auto Show alight by displaying its vehicles for the first time to the general public.
BAIC is collaborating with Sazgar Engineering Works Ltd in Pakistan to launch vehicles in the country. BAIC was granted the Greenfield status by the Ministry of Industries and Production back in March 2018. At the Raiwind Road, Lahore the production plant of BAIC is being established. The vehicles will be sold under the BAIC brand name.
Now we will tell our readers about the cars we expect BAIC will launch soon in Pakistan. It is expected that initially, BAIC will launch a crossover X25, a hatchback D20, an SUV BJ40 in Pakistan. All these vehicles were displayed at PAPS Autoshow 2020 at Expo Center Lahore on Feb 21, 2020.
Also, quite recently a D20 hatchback was also seen in Lahore which was registered against the company’s name. This means soon the company will introduce it to the local sector. It has been reported that BAIC has imported a few D20 units for testing on Pak roads.
BAIC D20 is based on the Smart Forfour platform. The styling and engine tech of the car is based on the first-generation of Mercedes B-Class. The hatchback comes in 1.3-litre and 1.5-litre engine powers. We don’t know yet which edition of the car will be introduced in the local auto market.
BAIC X25 was also spotted in Pakistan. Once launched it will be another addition to the affordable crossovers and SUVs market in the country.
As for BAIC BJ40, as per the company official, a new shape of the vehicle will be launched in the market. The pricing of these vehicles is not known, but it might be the make or break factor for these vehicles in the market.
It is important to mention here that the production capacity of BAIC is around 24,000 units per year. BAIC is one of the leading auto companies in China. The company produces not just passenger vehicles, SUVs but also military vehicles for Chinese armed forces. Also, BAIC is known for manufacturing electric vehicles. It is the second-biggest electric vehicle manufacturer in the world.
