Al-Haj Group Pakistan has signed an agreement with Proton, the Malaysian automaker. Al-Haj Group has become the official distributor and assembler of Proton vehicles in Pakistan.
Al-Haj will now distribute modern Proton hatchbacks, sedans, crossovers, SUVs and MPVs in Pakistan. It is reported that Al-Haj has acquired a separate land in Karachi for an assembly plant for Proton Cars.
Presently, Al-Haj Group is the official distributor and assemble of FAW and Hyundai vehicles in the country.
Their agreement with Proton will add diversification to their products and offer a variety of vehicles to the consumers.
In the last decade, Royal Automobiles introduced Proton cars in Pakistan. But they were not much successful. Now with a stronger partner and the aim to locally manufacture cars, Proton vehicles might get registered in the country.
It is pertinent to mention here that in 2017, China’s big auto company acquired a 49.9% stake at a valuation of $107 million. At that time Zhejiang Geely Holding Group claimed that they want to support and help in the transformation of Proton by making it a leading auto brand in Southeast Asia.
Now Geely is looking to enter the Southeast Asian markets through Proton vehicles. Geely is aiming to introduce one model every year initiating with Boyue SUV in Malaysia. Boyue SUV will launch by the end of 2018.
Chances are that as Al-Haj has come to an agreement with Proton we might see Proton branded innovative Geely cars sometime soon in Pakistan.
