A big step by the Cane Commissioner Punjab recently made Al-Arabia Sugar Mills Limited to payback PKR 261 million to the farmers and related parties.
The mill also deposited PKR 9.4 million and informed the office of the Cane Commissioner Punjab about clearing the arrears through a letter recently.
In a letter to the Cane Commissioner, the Assistant General Manager of the mill said that according to the order (C.C.B&F (9)-02/2014, dated December 7, 2016), Al-Arabia Sugar Mills Limited was to pay PKR 261,574,000 to cane growers against outstanding dues.
According to the resource, he also wrote in the letter that up till now PKR 252,086,477 had been paid to the rightful claimants and an amount of PKR 9,487,523 is now due to be paid. However, the later is still unclaimed.
The sugar mill, therefore, deposited the unclaimed amount in the relevant bank as a gesture of goodwill.
After receiving the letter and the payment from the mill, Cane Commissioner Punjab Zaman Wattoo informed the claimants to contact his office to settle their amounts.
