After the announcement made by Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) to offer free education for the transgender community, AIOU further extended its offer of free education to various other segments of the society.
The prisoners, female dropouts, the visually impaired and the people of the transgender community are some of the segments AIOU intends to focus upon by letting them avail free education. This was declared on Friday in an official statement.

This decision is being made to facilitate the people of these segments so that they could have a better and respected living in the society. This would help them in acquiring education and changing their lives towards betterment, this was mentioned in the statement.
The statement further added that the students who are unable to afford their education will continue to be given scholarships and fee-waiver policies.
Dr. Shahid Siddiqui, Vice Chancellor-AIOU hopes that the students of the marginalized categories would get themselves enrolled for the new academic session.
He mentioned that the last date for these admissions is 10th October with a minimal late-fee.
Dr. Shahid said that from the level of matriculation up to Ph.D. free education is being offered by AIOU to the handicapped, the jail convicts and the visually impaired. To help the students with their learning processes computerized conveniences are also given.
Specifically talking about free education for members of the transgender community, the AIOU-VC hopes it would lead towards a better living standard for them. Education can open new opportunities for them and could assist them in having much better lives.
