Police in Abu Dhabi has successfully launched an electronic system that will monitor and log the movement of the suspects who are involved in minor offenses, instead of sending them to jail.
The electronic system comes in the form of a bracelet and contained GPS installed in it. This system logs the location, time and every movement of the suspect and works as an alternative to sending to jail for a short time over minor offenses in the Capital.

The electronic monitoring system will be used to replace short-term imprisonment of suspects and is being implemented in coordination with the Judicial Department of Abu Dhabi. This system will help authorities to monitor the activities of the accused 24/7.
The Judicial Department said on Tuesday that monitoring of suspects will be only carried out upon the instruction by the court and the Public Prosecution decisions.
The use of the advanced and smart technology to monitor the suspects will have a positive impact on the implementation of rules by the courts, and also prevent suspects to repeat the same crime and help them to stay integrated with their families and society, said Ali Mohammad Al Baloushi, Attorney General of Abu Dhabi.
This smart system will help us to ensure the security and safety of the public as well as accused’s family, said Major General Maktoum Al Shareifi, Director General of Abu Dhabi Police.
