Dozens of labourers on Tuesday came out on the roads and staged a sit-in on Lahore’s Mall Road against the decision taken by the government to ban the plastic shopping bags.
According to the details, the protesters, working in different companies that produce shopping bags, said that the government’s decision to ban plastic shopping bags will take employment from several people.
Currently, in Punjab only, as many as five thousand factories are manufacturing plastic shopping bags. The protestors asked a question that how can the government control environmental pollution with unemployment of 1 million families?
The protestors further advised the concerned authorities to devise proper law instead of banning plastic shopping bags. “There is not even a single country in the world that has a complete ban on the use of plastic shopping bags,” the protesters further added.
On the other hand, the provincial government of Sindh has also imposed a complete ban on the use of plastic bags across the province. Sindh government said that a case will be filed against those using the plastic shopping bags after which, a proper investigation will be held.
