Since Nawaz Sharif, the Ex-Prime Minister of Pakistan gave controversial remarks on Mumbai attacks in an Interview with Dawn. A petition of treason has been filed against Nawaz in Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday according to the sources.
The petition is filed by advocate Aftab Virk on behalf of Pakistan Awaami Tehreek’s (PAT) Khurram Nawaz Gandapur. The petition allegedly claims that the Nawaz’s statement is against the national interest and national security as well as state institutions.
The petition also pleaded the court to start proceedings under the Article 6 of the constitution. Federal Minister Interior Ahsan Iqbal was also included in the petition as a respondent along with Nawaz.
Nawaz gave an interview on Monday to Dawn News which reads, “Militant organizations are active. Call them non-state actors, should we allow them to cross the border and kill 150 people in Mumbai? Explain it to me. Why can’t we complete the trial?” — a reference to the Mumbai attacks-related trials which have stalled in a Rawalpindi anti-terrorism court. “It’s absolutely unacceptable.
Nawaz remarks were taken seriously by Indian media, they considered Nawaz’s statement as Pakistan’s confession of involvement in Mumbai attacks which left 166 people dead. Even former interior minister and PMLN stalwart did not endorse Sharif’s statement. He held India responsible for delaying the trial.
