There has been a decrease in the losses of Pakistan Railways by more than Rs.3.5billion, as informed by Sheikh Rasheed—the Railways Minister on Monday.
He declared this while addressing a session of the National Assembly.
As per the minister, nearly 3.7million litres of oil have been saved by the Pakistan Railways in the span of one year. He also added that the new cargo trains have assisted the Pakistan Railways in earning the revenue.
During the financial year 2017-18, the Pakistan Railways have experienced losses of more than Rs.36billion. In the fiscal year 2018-19, the deficit was reduced to Rs.32.76billion, as per the railway minister.
He briefed the assembly regarding the up-gradation work on the Mainline—ML-1 project which would be starting from Karachi and the agreement in this regard would be signed in the month to come.
He informed that after 1861, not a single train track of Pakistan Railways had been changed and added that it was the government of PTI that took the decision of upgrading the track.
He also said that the Pakistan Railways network would be expanding for providing better travelling options to the commuters.
Sheikh Rasheed said that out of the 3,000 railway crossings, 1,200 crossings were manned whereas 1,800 crossings were unmanned.
