7,000 PIA employees to lay off voluntarily and will be satisfactorily compensated by the Civil Aviation Authority of Pakistan.

Federal Aviation Minister Ghulam Sarwar recently told a media team that PIA requires only 7 thousand employees. It currently has over 14,000 employees which is a result of political influence.

These 7,000 employees will have to be let go of via Voluntary Separation Scheme (VSS) and those will be compensated.

As for the suspicious licenses of 262 pilots, the minister said that no misinformation was forwarded on this matter. An inquiry was also initiated which found 82 to be guilty. Those who came clean in the inquiries got their clearance certificates as well.

As for the vacant Director General CAA post, he told that about 600 candidates applied for the position, and 18 were shortlisted. But even the shortlisted ones failed to fulfill the standards.

It was also told that the Aircraft Accident Investigation Board of Pakistan tasked to probe into the PIA plane crash near Havilian in 2016 has released its inquiry report and held PIA engineers responsible for the crash.
