According to a summary forwarded to Sardar Usman Buzdar—the Chief Minister of the most populated province of the country Punjab, an estimated 670,000 people could be affected by the novel coronavirus in Punjab’s capital city Lahore alone.
Secretary Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department Captain (retd) Muhammad Usman said that the summary was forwarded to the Chief Minister of Punjab Sardar Usman Buzdar on May 15. The summary contained the results of samples collected from hotspots, residences, and offices in the provincial capital Lahore.
According to the details mentioned in the summary, 6 percent of the total samples collected tested positive for the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). In some towns, the results of the samples stated that 14.7 percent of the samples came back with positive results.
The report further claimed that there was not a single area in Lahore or a qasba where the infection (coronavirus) has not reached.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Technical Working Group—which carried out the exercise in the provincial capital by collecting the samples to gauge how fast the novel coronavirus can spread in the city—has recommended imposing a complete lockdown across the city for four weeks. The members of the groups have also recommended quarantining persons aged above 50 years.
The government has also been advised by the group to declare it essential for the people to stay inside their homes and not venture out unnecessarily.
