6 Bottled Water Brands declared Unsafe for Human Consumption

Six bottled water brands have been declared unsafe for human consumption by the Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority (PSQCA). In its monitoring report for October-December, 2018 quarter it has declared the 6 brands unsafe due to the chemical and microbiological contamination found in them.

The 6 water brands are Karakorum Flow, Crystal Maya, Alpha, Aqua Ayolam, Paradise and Hibba. Analytical findings were compared within the permissible limits and it was revealed that the above mentioned 6 water brands are unfit for human consumption.

Two of the brands Karakorum Flow and Aqua Ayolam was declared unsafe as microbiological contamination was found in the water that can lead to cholera, diarrhea, dysentery, hepatitis, and typhoid.

Crystal Maya, Alpha, Paradise are the three brands that were declared unsafe as higher level of Sodium ranging from 78-82 ppm was found in them. While Hibba brand had low level of pH.

A new release said that the quality standard for sodium in bottled water by PSQCA is 50 ppm for sodium and pH is 6.5-8.5.

78 samples were collected of bottled water brands from different cities including Islamabad, Karachi, Multan, Lahore, Bahawalpur, Quetta etc. Due to the poor quality of drinking water, most of the citizens purchase bottled water.

Thus the growth of bottled water industry in Pakistan has increased. It has resulted in many water companies selling contaminated water to the public that should be controlled.
