As Mehran is being discontinued, buzz is that locally manufactured Alto 660cc will launch in Pakistan in 2019. Alto 660cc will be available in three variants that are auto top-of-the-line model, manual base model and manual high spec model. Alto will have no competition in the locally manufactured car segment. The competition will be with the imported Japanese cars.
Toyota Bezza was seen in Karachi which reportedly was a test-drive model. The company imported it to test the performance of the car on Pakistani roads. Bezza is a 1000cc sedan that was launched by the Malaysian automaker Perodua back in 2016. It comes under 1KR-VE and 1NR-VE two engines paired to 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission respectively. The car would compete with Suzuki Cultus and Wagon R.
Toyota Vios is expected to launch in Pakistan by October 2019. It will be equipped with a 1.3 Liter DOHC 16 Valve with dual VVT-i engine. It will be mated to a manual or auto transmission. It will produce 100 hp and 123 Nm of torque. Rumor is that Vios will be a replacement of Toyota Corolla GLi and it will compete with Honda City and Suzuki Ciaz.
Kia Sportage was expected to launch by the end of 2018 but nothing was revealed in this regard. The car was seen in two different cities and the possibility lies that it will be released in 2019. It is equipped with different engine options. The one seen in Karachi had a 2.4Litre Inline-4 engine mated to auto and manual transmission. Kia will compete with BMW X5 if it is officially launched in Pakistan.
Another car expected in Pakistan in 2019 is Kia Rio. Globally Kia Rio comes with 1-litre turbo engine mated to 5-Speed manual, 4-Speed automatic, 6-Speed manual or a 6-Speed automatic. It will have lane departure warning, autonomy emergency braking, apple carplay, android auto, and other options. Its competitor in Pakistan will be Suzuki Swift.
