Pakistan Railways has the plans of launching 3 tourist trains soon with the objective of promoting tourism in the country under the instructions of Railways Minister—Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed.
An official of the Ministry of Railways said that the tourist trains with steam engines would run between Peshawar-Attock Bridge, Rawalpindi-Taxila and Karachi-Keenjhar Lake.
He also said that the launch of these trains would assist the Pakistan Railways for earning extra revenue.
Answering a question, he said that various departments of the federal and provincial government had to pay Rs2715.41 million to Pakistan Railways on account of freight and level crossing maintenance charges, etc.
While giving details, he said that the Pakistan Railways had got a total outstanding amount against the departments of the federal government which is Rs945.009 million and Rs1770.401 million against the provincial government departments.
The official further said that Pakistan Railways had to get Rs371.490 million from various departments of the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Rs146.208 million of the provinces of Sindh, Rs1228.872 from the province of Punjab and Rs23.831 million from the government of Baluchistan departments.
He also said that the provincial government departments had to pay an outstanding amount on account of level crossing and maintenance charges, land charges and passion share.
