Responding to the accelerating coronavirus pandemic, around one in five people around the globe are under lockdown. This means that around 20% of the global population is staying at home.
There are to date 378,679 confirmed coronavirus cases globally. Over 16,500 people have died due to it and almost 101,000 have recovered.
The head of the World Health Organization Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said that the first 100,000 cases appeared in 67 days while the recent 100,000 cases appeared in just 4 days. Adding that despite this, “we are not helpless bystanders”.
Around 1.7 billion have been ordered to stay at home as the governments are taking extreme measures to protect the people.
Recently Britain has also locked down the country after banning movement. The measures taken have strict restrictions on gatherings and even exercise. All these measures are enforced by the police.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson said that non-essential shops, playgrounds, libraries, and other venues are closed. He gave the warning that people will only be permitted to go outside to purchase food or medication, exercise alone once a day, or to travel to work if absolutely necessary.
He said, “You must stay at home.”
China has also announced that the travel restrictions in Hubei province which was the center of the outbreak will be lifted by 8th April. Since 23rd January, Wuhan had been under lockdown.
