A tally by the Ministry of Health Services has revealed that in the federal capital, the community transmission of the novel coronavirus is 100%.
Dr. Zafar Mirza, the special assistant to the prime minister on health, during a press briefing announced that the local transmission of COVID-19 has overtaken the infections acquired from overseas in the country as a whole as well. In April the data hiked to 96% from 80%.
Earlier on it was the pilgrims that returned back from Iran that carried the virus with them in large numbers. But now the virus is increasingly spreading locally in each province and in Islamabad.
According to the data of the ministry, in Islamabad the local transmission is the highest i.e. 100%. In Azad Jammu and Kashmir local transmission of COVID-19 is 98%, % in Sindh, 96% in Punjab, 91% in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and 87% in Gilgit-Baltistan respectively.
There are a total of 181,088 cases in Pakistan to date and more than 3000 people have lost their lives from it. There are 10,912 confirmed coronavirus patients in Islamabad and 101 deaths have been recorded in the capital.
The health workers, working day and night for us are also being infected. In Islamabad only, 403 health workers have been infected and 4 of them lost their lives to it.
